When pros edit they're not just cutting and pasting, they're adding layers and layers of information—music, captions, subtitles. They’re making your story shine. Here are our top three tips for editing your video like a pro:
Know your software. It doesn't matter if it's iMovie or Adobe Premiere Pro—you need to know how to use your software's tools! And don't forget about the basics: delete key (on Mac) and backspace key (on PC) are your best friends when it comes to trimming clips down.
Use color correction effects sparingly. Color correction can be helpful for fixing lighting issues or getting rid of red eye in photos, but too much color correction can make a video look unnatural or even downright weird. Don't overdo it!
Add music that fits the mood of your video without overpowering it with too much volume/too many instruments playing at once (we're looking at you, classical music composers). A good rule of thumb is 1-2 minutes per minute of footage you want to show off; other genres may require more or less time, depending on what kind of mood they set up for.
